| How to use | 1. Inspect the Test Lead Kit Before Use Before performing any electrical measurement, inspect the test lead cables, insulated probe handles, banana plugs, alligator clips, needle probes, mini hooks, and other attachments for cuts, cracks, exposed wire, corrosion, or loose connections. Do not use damaged components, particularly when working with live circuits. Confirm that the multimeter, test leads, and accessories are suitable for the voltage and current being measured and never exceed the stated 1000V/10A rating. 2. Select the Correct Probe Attachment Choose the attachment that best suits the testing task. Use the standard pointed probes for general voltage, resistance, and continuity measurements; alligator clips for secure hands-free contact; needle probes for testing small terminals or wire insulation where appropriate; and mini hooks for gripping narrow component leads, pins, and connectors. Ensure each accessory is firmly attached before starting the test. 3. Connect the Leads to the Multimeter Insert the black banana plug into the multimeter's COM terminal. Insert the red banana plug into the correct input socket for the measurement being performed, such as the voltage and resistance terminal or the dedicated current terminal. Always verify the correct socket and dial setting before connecting the probes to a circuit, as an incorrect connection may damage the meter or create a safety hazard. 4. Set the Multimeter to the Required Function Turn the multimeter selector to the correct function and range for voltage, current, resistance, continuity, diode, or another supported test. When the expected value is unknown, begin with the highest available range and reduce it gradually for a more precise reading. Disconnect electrical power before measuring resistance, continuity, or testing individual components unless the multimeter instructions specifically state otherwise. 5. Take the Electrical Measurement Safely Hold the probes behind the insulated finger guards and place their metal tips on the appropriate test points. For DC measurements, connect the red probe to the positive point and the black probe to the negative or ground point. Keep your fingers away from exposed metal, avoid allowing the probe tips to touch each other across a live supply, and use secure clips or hooks whenever hands-free testing provides better control. 6. Read and Record the Result Wait for the multimeter display to stabilise, then read and record the measurement. If the reading appears unstable, remove the probes and check that the attachments are making clean, secure contact with the test points. Never change the multimeter function or move the red lead between input sockets while the probes remain connected to a live circuit. 7. Disconnect and Clean the Test Leads When testing is complete, remove the probes from the circuit before switching off the multimeter or disconnecting the leads. Wipe the probe tips, clips, hooks, cables, and insulated handles with a clean, dry cloth to remove dust, grease, and workshop residue. Do not immerse the leads in water or use abrasive cleaners that could damage the insulation and protective surfaces. 8. Store the Kit Properly Coil the test lead cables loosely without sharp bends and keep all probes, clips, hooks, and accessories together in a protective case, toolbox, or dry storage compartment. Store the kit away from moisture, excessive heat, sharp tools, chemicals, and heavy objects. Routine inspection, careful handling, and correct storage will help preserve the insulation, connectors, and reliable performance of the multimeter test lead kit. |
